Physical Modeling and Simulation
We support our customers to build simulation models of mechatronic systems. Such systems comprise usually several interacting physical sub-systems: electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, etc.
Modeling language Modelica
Modelica is a vendor-neutral language for object-oriented modeling of physical systems. Modelica has been developed since 1997 by the Modelica Association (http://www.modelica.org). Good quality simulators for Modelica are offered by several providers. Due to its multi-domain concepts, Modelica offers outstanding support for the modeling of mechatronic systems.
Benefit for the development process
- Only one language: All physical sub-systems, from differing engineering disciplines, can be conveniently modeled with one language (possibly with the exception of software, which is dominated by Simulink). This minimizes the overhead for training and tool integration.
- Reuse: Modelica offers outstanding support for the reuse of models and model components. This often leads to a dramatic reduction of labor costs and time for model creation.
- Maintainability: With Modelica, local changes in a mechatronic design cause only local changes in the corresponding Modelica model, due to Modelica's object-oriented approach. This distinguishes Modelica from block-oriented languages and simplifies maintenance of Modelica models significantly.
